About Me...

I'm Sandra,

An Afro-Jamaican-American artist,

living in Savannah with my husband and two daughters.

Life is good.

NEWS! I completed my third year teaching Dramatic Writing at SCAD UniversityI LOVE it!!!

I recently completed my new play, Chiseled Legacies, which follows the story of Zara Singleton, a talented sculptor who, despite her success at the Venice Biennale, is denied a commission in her hometown of Richmond. Undeterred, Zara decides to fund the project herself, drawing inspiration from the lives and works of three pioneering African American women sculptors: Edmonia Lewis, Augusta Savage, and Meta Warrick Fuller. As Zara navigates the challenges of creating her commissioned piece, she learns valuable lessons about resilience, determination, and the power of art to transform lives and communities. Through her journey, the play celebrates the enduring legacy of African American women artists and invites us to reflect on the importance of uplifting marginalized voices in the art world and beyond.

I had a recent reading of my Sloan/EST commissioned play Amma's Wit, about midwifery; a homage to the "granny" midwives. And, super-stoked about several TV projects in different stages of development. Here is what Black List had to say about one of the pilotsThis is a stupendously well-researched, well wrought peak into a milieu that hasn’t been depicted enough in the TV space...There’s so much to appreciate here, it’s almost overwhelming…the writer evinces a gentle wisdom that flows between the words like jazz. The clear and specific grasp of milieu,…three dimensional characterization, and the overall premise all coalesce here to create a dynamite read. With further honing on the plot front, this script will achieve its potential.

An Invitation to Collaborate and Innovate

Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Esteemed Network,

I hope this message finds you well. As I embark on an exciting new chapter in my life, I'm reaching out to share an opportunity for collaboration and growth that I believe could be mutually enriching.

For close to four decades, I've had the privilege of contributing to the arts as an Afro-Caribbean artist, weaving stories that celebrate the resilience and beauty of underrepresented voices. My journey has been one of continuous evolution, from receiving an OBIE and the Josephine Abady Award for diversifying the American theater landscape, to founding Liberation Theatre Company and Harlem9, to shaping the next generation of dramatic writers as a Professor at SCAD University.

My work, spanning theater and TV, has always focused on historical dramas that spotlight women and people of color, employing compelling text, movement, and music. As a SAG/AFTRA/AEA actor, dramaturge, and script consultant, I've honed a unique perspective on storytelling that bridges diverse experiences and cultures.

Now, I find myself at an exhilarating crossroads. I'm opening myself to new, unexpected opportunities that challenge me to grow, contribute, and inspire in fresh ways. I'm eager to lend my expertise to projects that push boundaries and create meaningful change - whether it's joining thought-provoking panels, consulting on diversity and inclusion initiatives, collaborating on innovative artistic endeavors, writing for new mediums, acting in groundbreaking productions, teaching in different contexts, facilitating transformative workshops, or speaking at events that spark important conversations.

If you know of any opportunities where my skills, experience, and passion could add value, I would be honored if you'd consider putting my name forward. There's no urgency - I'm content and fulfilled in my current pursuits. This is simply an open invitation to the universe and my network to surprise me with new challenges that align with my commitment to uplifting diverse voices and creating spaces for authentic self-expression.

You can explore more about my work and background at sandradaley.com. I'm excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and the potential to collaborate with visionaries like yourselves in unexpected ways.

Thank you for being part of my journey. I look forward to the surprises and growth that this new chapter may bring.

Warmly and with anticipation,

Sandra A. Daley-Sharif

P.S. Feel free to share this with others who might be interested in collaborating or who know of exciting opportunities. I'm open to the unexpected and trust that the right connections will manifest in their own time.
